The Curae Prize
Privacy Policy
This privacy policy (“policy”) will help you understand how the Curae (“us”, “we”, “our” – and for admin purposes, “I” – Anna Vaught, orignator and organiser) uses and protects the data you provide to us when you visit and use https://thecuraeprize.uk/(“website”, “service”).
We reserve the right to change this policy at any given time, of which you will be promptly updated. If you want to make sure that you are up to date with the latest changes, we advise you to frequently visit this page.
What User Data We Collect
When you visit the website, we may collect the following data:
- Your contact information and email address.
- Other information about you – things you have shared about your background, if you wished to confirm how you were eligible for the prize, but Anna Vaught, the organiser and originator of the prize (Curae) is the only person who reads the emails. Michael Langan, Amy Lord, Elissa Soave and I read your entries BLIND and entries to the competition are read separately from any identifying information
Why We Collect Your Data
We are collecting your data for several reasons:
- To improve the prize for future years – comments that you have made about alteration of the prize to improve accessibility may be implemented
- So that I (Anna Vaught) may respond to any queries you have about the prize. (For Curae, “data” refers only to those two bulleted points.)
- No data is shared with any other party EXCEPT for if you are shortlisted or one of the two winners AT WHICH POINT I shall write to you. At this point you will be eligible for prizes, and resources so I will need to contact those who are offering these things. ONLY your email address will be shared and your entered work. You may choose to remain anonymous. Data means your name and the title and content of your Curae entry only.
- I will showcase all shortlisted and winning work on the Curae site WITH YOUR WRITTEN PERMISSION.
- Where I have asked you if you would like to offer a comment on creative practice for my new book on writing (The Alchemy, Renard Press, October, 2023), I have emailed you all in response to your original entry. You are not compelled to offer this and if you do wish to be included, your comment can be anonymous – as I have emphasised in my email.
Safeguarding and Securing the Data
Curae is committed to securing your data and keeping it confidential. Curae has done all in its power to prevent data theft, unauthorized access, and disclosure by implementing the latest technologies and software, which help us safeguard all the information we collect online. I have also emphasised to you that you may, for the prize, remain entirely anonymous and there is NO requirement for your work to be named; it will remain anonymous throughout which you (the entrant) and I (prize originator and organiser) will discuss
Our Cookie Policy
Once you agree to allow our website to use cookies, you also agree to use the data it collects regarding your online behavior (analyze web traffic, web pages you spend the most time on, and websites you visit).
The data we collect by using cookies is used to customize our website to your needs. After we use the data for statistical analysis, the data is completely removed from our systems.
Please note that cookies don’t allow us to gain control of your computer in any way. They are strictly used to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not so that we can provide a better experience for you.
If you want to disable cookies, you can do this by accessing the settings of your internet browser. You can visit www.internetcookies.com, which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of browsers and devices.
Links to Other Websites
Curae does not link to other websites. I have, however, made you aware of my new book on writing, The Alchemy, should you wish to contribute a line or two on your creative practice. Again anonymous if you wish and as outlined in emails I have written to everyone through the Curae email address attached to the site.
Restricting the Collection of your Personal Data
You might wish to restrict the use and collection of your personal data. You can achieve this by doing the following:
When you enter the prize there is no need to disclose your personal information and you can enter anonymously.
If you have already agreed to share your information with us, feel free to contact us via email and we will be more than happy to change this for you. Our email address is: thecuraeprize@gmail.com
Curae will not lease, sell or distribute your personal information to any third parties, unless we have your permission. We might do so if the law forces us. Your personal information will be used only in terms of communicating with you via your email address as sent to the Curae prize – to the email address given above.
